Through the Design Fund, the CDCP offers grants and technical assistance to help organizations purchase and effectively use professional architectural and planning services. Grants and recoverable grants enable non-profit community-based organizations to hire architects and planners to prepare preliminary designs for strategic revitalization projects. Technical assistance – offered in conjunction with grants, and on a consulting basis – includes help with project strategy, consultant selection and management, and design review.

The RenPlan® program provides educational materials, renovation resources and affordable consultations to property owners planning improvements. By expanding their understanding of options, the RenPlan® program helps people make investments that add value to their homes and neighborhoods. For a modest fee, the program matches the homeowner with a design professional who will discuss improvement ideas and provide personalized renovation advice to help get them started. Any Pittsburgh-area property owner qualifies for the RenPlan® program.

Pedal Pittsburgh is the region’s premier cycling event celebrating design, health & fitness and urban lifestyles. This fun, educational bicycle ride draws over 2,000 riders annually, and highlights the neighborhood and design landmarks that make Pittsburgh unique. A ride, not a race, Pedal Pittsburgh offers a variety of course options to accommodate everyone from recreational riders to fitness enthusiasts. Proceeds from the event support CDCP programs and services.

Through our Civic Stewardship Initiative, the CDCP offers education, advocacy, and technical assistance to encourage awareness of the built environment – buildings, neighborhoods, parks and public spaces – and its critical contributions to public life. Educational resources – websites, workshops, tours, presentations and research – help people understand and negotiate design issues and processes. The CDCP acts as a voice for design and its role in strengthening communities and shaping the future of the region.
