Deliberate democracy and the importance of diversity were two big themes that Dr. Carolyn Lukensmeyer presented during the first Design Excellence Lecture on November first. During the day, Carolyn met with stakeholders from the Larimer and East Liberty neighborhoods as well as members of the Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group. The conversation continued as audience members were asked for their opinions about the lecture and were encouraged to share their thoughts on how communities shape themselves. Our roving reporters and photographers were at the reception afterward to capture their reactions. Click here to view photos and video from the event, and to see Carolyn's presentation.

THANKS | CDCP Receives Support from Pittsburgh Day of Giving Donors
The Community Design Center of Pittsburgh would like to thank the individuals who donated during Pittsburgh's Day of Giving on October 13. You help make a difference in Pittsburgh. Your matched gift helps us ensure buildings and public spaces contribute the best possible return on investment - economic, environmental, physical, and social. It helps us to connect local people and organizations to the design and planning resources they need to create and sustain vibrant places and spaces.
GRANT | Two Neighborhood Groups Receive Design Fund Grants
The CDCP recently awarded Design Fund Grants to community groups in Oakland and East Liberty. The Oakland Planning and Development Corporation (OPDC) received a $10,000 grant to support a site assessment and plan for affordable housing development in the West Oakland neighborhood. East Liberty Development Inc
(ELDI) received a $5,000 grant on behalf of the co-housing group, Borland Green Eco-Village. This grant will support a comprehensive plan for landscaping a vacant lot in order to integrate multiple activities on the site as well as focus on biodiversity and effective storm water management.
