Five towns in Fayette County – Brownsville, Connellsville, Ohiopyle, Port Marion, and Uniontown – are targeted to submit an application to a new development fund formed by the Community Foundation of Fayette County. The CDCP’s Jason Vrabel is assisting each of the five communities with identifying potential project that are strategic and catalytic. The CDCP is working in collaboration with the Community Technical Assistance Center (CTAC) through a contract with the Pittsburgh Partnership for Neighborhood Development (PPND) and the Community Technical Assistance Center (CTAC).

LEADERSHIP | CDCP President/CEO Summer Sabbatical
Anne-Marie Lubenau, AIA, is an awardee of the McCune Foundation’s Management Revitalization Initiative, which is enabling her to take the summer months of June, July, and August to further develop her leadership skills and knowledge of successful civic design initiatives. Anne-Marie’s sabbatical will include study at the Center for Creative Leadership in Colorado Springs as well as visits to cities that excel in engaging the public and cultivating a civic culture that embraces good planning and design. Nancy Hart, Director of Development & Operations, will provide day-to-day management of the CDCP during Anne-Marie’s absence.
CONGRATS | RenPlan® Program Volunteers
The second annual RenPlan® program Consultant Appreciation event was held June 5th at the spectacular, sustainable home of Eric Fisher, AIA, and his wife, Mary.

A champagne toast also was raised to the eight Decade of Service consultants who have volunteered ten or more years with the RenPlan® program. REPORT | PNC Pedal Pittsburgh 2008
Despite gray skies and rain showers, an estimated 1700 cyclists enjoyed the city’s urban architectural splendor on May 18 at PNC Pedal Pittsburgh, the 15th anniversary of the annual CDCP fundraiser. WTAE-TV broadcast its Sunday morning weather reports live from PNC Pedal Pittsburgh’s start/finish at Station Square. Whole Foods served an All-American lunch to riders and volunteers as Salsamba entertained the crowd with its signature sound. Special thanks and recognition to major sponsors PNC, Highmark, Point Park University, Whole Foods, and WYEP, as well as numerous additional sponsors and volunteers. An estimated $60,000 was raised to continue the CDCP’s mission of advocating for good planning and design.
GRANTS | Awards Made to Troy Hill Citizens and Bike Pittsburgh
The CDCP awarded two Design Fund Grants in May 2008 totaling $15,000.
Troy Hill Citizens Council received $10,000 for its Heart of Troy Hill Streetscape Improvement project to design connections between the business district and other neighborhood amenities. A $5,000 matching grant was awarded to Bike Pittsburgh for its Oakland Greenway project to encourage alternate forms of transportation. The deadline for the next round of Design Fund grant applications is August 1, 2008.
UPDATE | Lawrenceville Gateway Project Thrives
Banners, trash barrels, and gateway signage featuring the iconic doughboy image are blooming throughout Lawrenceville. This effective branding program – developed by the Lawrenceville Corporation and Pashek Associates – is the result of assistance provided by the CDCP through a public space improvement project of the URA’s Main Street program.
WELCOME | New Faces at CDCP
Zack Ambrose joined the CDCP as RenPlan® program coordinator. A Johnstown native and recent University of Pittsburgh graduate in urban studies and history, Zack previously interned at the South Side Local Development Company and the City of Pittsburgh Zoning Office.
Danielle Robinson, also a Pitt grad, is spending the summer at the CDCP as an intern. Danielle will provide assistance and support to the CDCP’s marketing and communication efforts.
