UPDATE  l  Bryant Street Groundbreaking

On May 15, the Highland Park community celebrated the groundbreaking of 5801 Bryant Street - a building designed by Moss Architects which will house a new restaurant on the ground floor and loft apartments on the 2nd and 3rd floors. This project is the result of a $7,000 Design Fund grant awarded to the Highland Park Community Development Corporation (HPCDC) in 2003 to support conceptual design of a mixed-use building on a vacant lot in Highland Park's business district. The HPCDC retained the services of architects Hammer-Mann Designwerks, and the CDCP provided technical assistance to create conceptual site plans, building plans, and renderings. With East Liberty Development Inc. (ELDI) providing development services, HPCDC was able to transform the conceptual project into a three-phase development plan that helped the neighborhood realize its vision of improving the Bryant Street business district.

PROGRESS  l  Federal Hill Experiences Noteworthy Response

Pre-sales for Phase 1 of the Federal Hill housing initiative project are nearly complete with 19 of the 23 units sold.  A number of new homeowners are anticipated to move in as early as the end of July. Developed by the Central North Side Neighborhood Council (CNNC) and S&A Homes, the three-phase project will include approximately 60 new three-story homes. Prices range from $130,000 to $250,000 with upgrades available and second deferred mortgages for qualifying first-time homeowners provided by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. According to Chris Cinker, General Manager at S&A Homes, "Federal Hill has been our best selling development in Pennsylvania."  To learn more about the Federal Hill project, for which CNNC received an $8,330 Design Fund planning grant from the CDCP in 1998, please visit the Pedal Pittsburgh 2009 Design Highlights.
